01 / What it does

The project

  • An FMEA table covering every link in the chain: radio, WiFi, Pi, flight controller, flow sensor and lidar, battery, motors, landing camera, Base and both programs. Each row is scored and ranked.
  • Each response becomes ArduPilot failsafe parameters or a Faust Control rule: radio loss, link loss, low battery, bad position estimate, marker lost on landing, geofence.
  • An automated script injects each failure in SITL and checks Faust does what the table says.
  • A one-page safety case with operating limits and the pre-flight checklist.
02 / Why

What it gives Volans

The first autonomous flight is when things break. This makes sure Faust lands or holds instead of drifting into a wall.

03 / Plan

Steps and targets

  1. 01System block diagram and FMEA tablePlanned
  2. 02Failsafe parameter filePlanned
  3. 03Automated SITL test scriptPlanned
  4. 04Run the campaign and fix until every row passesPlanned
  5. 05Safety case and checklistPlanned

Success looks like

  • At least 15 failure modes tested in SITL with logs
  • Every high-severity failure ends in a controlled descent or hold
  • The full set re-runs in under 30 minutes
